A free, free and open source professional drawing software. It was developed by programmers who know how to draw, with the goal of creating a digital drawing tool that everyone can afford. Suitable for: concept art design, materials and film sets, illustration and comics, etc.
Application description
Krita is a free and open source digital painting software designed for the needs of the concept art, illustration, set, material and film effects industries. Both beginners and experts can get creative with Krita.
User interface
Krita’s user interface is intuitive and easy to use, while being as unobtrusive as possible. You can drag and customise individual tool panels to suit your usage habits and save these changes as workspace presets. You can also customise shortcuts for frequently used tools.
Brush shake prevention
For the many people who suffer from shaky hands when drawing, Krita has three different built-in brush smoothing and stabilisation mechanisms. There is also a mechanics brush tool that allows you to specify the tip tug and the weight of the brush.
Floating tool board
Right click on the canvas to open the floating tool palette and quickly select your favourite brushes, colours and adjust the main parameters of the brushes. You can also customise the brush presets displayed via Krita’s tab system. The outer side of the colour ring shows the most recently used colours. All these items can be changed in the settings.
Brush engine
Krita has nine different brush engines built in, including effect engines for colour haloes, shapes, particles and filters. Each engine is built around a specific need, with a wealth of customisation options. You can create your own brushes and categorise them through Krita’s unique tagging system.
Surround mode
Creating seamless materials and patterns in Krita is as simple as pressing the W key on your keyboard to switch to wrap-around mode. The canvas automatically repeats the image content on the X and Y axes and updates in real time, so you no longer have to manually check for shifts in the repeat effect.
